We recently released Bluefin’s first product - Bluefin Forecasting - and it’s great to see it out there in the world. Today I wanted to share our broader vision.

It’s often said in Clinical Supplies that the goal is to ensure the right product gets to the right patient at the right time. To quote one of our users:

Clinical supply leads are constantly trying to create efficiency, whether it’s how we do our job or getting the right supply to the right patient at the right time. As fast as we can.

In the coming years, Bluefin’s platform will help create this efficiency. We believe the best way to facilitate this using software is to build an end-to-end platform to help teams centralize and structure all of their data.

With structured data at its core, Bluefin can transform this dataset in a variety of ways like planning, tracking and tracing, managing inventory, streamlining regulatory compliance. Bluefin can also use its data to provide on-demand answers to critical questions - or anything else a clinical supply team is called upon to do.

Imagine being able to generate lot genealogy reports in seconds. Or having all your labels, for all your countries, auto-generated using the latest regulatory requirements with the single click of a button. Or automating qualified person (QP) releases, because Bluefin already knows the information that needs to be filled in. This is just some of what we think is possible.

Let me make an analogy using the example of some great software in a different field.

We use a cloud software product called Vanta for managing our own security and compliance within Bluefin. Vanta lets us enter all our data in a structured way (e.g., here’s our process for reporting incidents; connect Vanta to Amazon Web Services so it can verify that we have certain settings correct for our servers, etc.). Once all this data is in Vanta and stored in their format, it can be used for a variety of compliance frameworks such as GDPR or SOC II. And Vanta is able to automate compliance to those and any other frameworks we choose because we have used it to maintain complete and structured data.

This might be a bit dry, but I hope that the analogy is clear - because what we envision for the clinical supplies team is something very similar, at least in terms of devising a standardized format for data which enables you to use it in a variety of ways. Imagine, with very little effort, being able to auto-generate labels, or create a lot genealogy report, because you’ve already been centralizing your supply data in Bluefin.

Perhaps “Vanta for Clinical Supply Chain” isn’t ready to be a household phrase, but hopefully this paints the picture well enough! Of course, it isn’t quite this simple; clinical supplies is a unique field with different processes than compliance management.

This brings us to artificial intelligence (AI). Today’s AI is particularly good at taking data, massaging it, and delivering it in a different format. It’s particularly well-suited to our vision. AI can help make your data useful in increasingly powerful ways. Already in our product, we have demonstrated the ability to upload a study protocol and auto-generate a demand plan. But the most useful applications are ahead of us.

Here at Bluefin, we’re very excited about this vision and helping teams harness the power of centralized, structured data in clinical supplies. Book some time with us at book.bluefin.one to see what we’re working on and share your insights to help us build the best platform for the industry.
