Last week, we shared our vision for Bluefin: end-to-end clinical supply software that centralizes and structures data so it can be used to increase productivity and lower risk in a variety of ways, from planning to labeling. This week, we want to talk about how we’re bringing that vision to life: the Bluefin Platform.

Through conversations with customers about their experience using other clinical supply software systems, we developed a strong conviction: to build great features, we first had to build a solid technology platform on which all products — like planning or RTSM — sit.

Building features without a strong platform leads to two significant problems.

First, it creates a fragmented software landscape. Today in clinical supplies, we see disconnected tools that may solve individual problems but don’t talk to each other. If you’ve ever tried connecting a clinical supply planning system with an IRT from a different vendor, you know how painful this can be.

Second, bolting a platform onto a product after it’s built is nearly impossible. We’ve seen companies spend years and millions of dollars trying to retrofit an API, often with poor results. We use the term “built on top of the platform” deliberately — it reflects the correct order of operations. Perhaps you’re using software today that calls itself a “platform” but is really a patchwork of acquired products. I’d bet it just doesn’t feel seamless.

But what do we mean by a platform, anyway? Here’s what we see as a concrete definition — capabilities that should exist consistently across all products from day one:

We’re already delivering on this vision with Bluefin Forecasting, our first product. It addresses the critical need for accurate, validated demand and supply forecasts in a connected, real-time system. On its own, demand forecasting is powerful—but it becomes even more valuable when combined with other workflows. For example, if you use weight-based dosing with pediatric patients, their weights may change over time. Bluefin Forecasting will adjust the timing and quantity of doses based on forecasted weights. When importing your actuals from another system, Bluefin Forecasting will dynamically adjust to incorporate those actuals.

This is the power of a unified platform: your tools don’t just solve individual problems — they amplify each other. The result? A more proactive, efficient clinical supply operation that reduces risk, lowers waste, and increases confidence.

And this is just the beginning. We want to hear from clinical supply professionals like you: What’s working well in your current workflows, and what’s not? What challenges are you facing, and what would you like us to build next? Message us and let’s set up some time to talk!
