Release 3.0
FeatureBluefin Version 3.0 is a major release, bringing substantial under-the-hood improvements, some reporting improvements, and new features to accommodate two key workflows: country-specific labeling and upstream parts.
🔥 6x-10x Faster Forecasting
The team has done significant a significant overhaul Bluefin’s engine for the scale of our most demanding customers. We wanted to ensure multiple forecasts could be calculated concurrently, in-browser, and in seconds, even for the largest forecasts.
Forecast scales that weren't possible before now run in just seconds. We have tested forecasts with 1,500 participants that complete in just 1 second (down from 7 sec) using just 80mb of memory (down from 250mb). What this means for our users - a fast, fluid, and reliable experience across all screens in Bluefin.
Improved Previews

With the improved forecasting engine, you’ll immediately notice how much faster the previews are to update. Switching between them, even with large studies, feels fluid and consistent.
You can also now filter by part. When viewing the inventory preview, for example, you’re able to see exactly which lots cause a jump in inventory, and view the associated drawdown.
SKUs and Labels

We’ve added SKUs, which are variants of a physical part. While demand forecasting is done on the part level, SKUs are individual “instantiations” of that part, with a list of countries that it can be dispensed within.

Right now, SKUs and labels are focused on record-keeping. In follow-up releases, we’ll be using SKUs to suggest manufacturing lots and give users an idea of if their demand will be satisfied by a particular supply plan.
Upstream Parts

We renamed the “relationships” section of the part detail page to be more explicit in naming convention. For a part, you’ll see every part it contains, and every part that contains it. As an example, a kit may contain multiple vials of a drug product, and you may produce that drug product separately or want to visualize demand in terms of that upstream part.
